AcademyLate winner sees 10-man LFC U21s beat Arsenal
The young Reds were reduced to 10 men in the early stages of the second half of Monday’s Premier League 2 game at Meadow Park as Lee Jonas was shown a straight red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Arsenal then put Barry Lewtas’ side under pressure but the visitors stood firm and striker Stewart came off the bench to net an 85th-minute winner.
Clear-cut chances were at a premium during an evenly matched first half but, after gaining numerical superiority, the hosts were in the ascendancy and Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga denied Matt Smith.
But, soon after replacing Ben Doak, substitute Stewart struck to claim all three points for Lewtas’ team.
Liverpool U21s: Pitaluga, Stephenson, Jonas, Koumetio, Beck, Corness, Clark, Frauendorf, Doak (Stewart, 72), Woltman (Miles, 90+5), Musialowski (Norris, 60).
