Special tributes were paid to Kevin Keegan at Liverpool’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle United on Sunday.

The season-opener at St. James’ Park fittingly brought together two clubs with whom Keegan created eternal bonds as a player and manager.

The former forward, who scored 100 goals and won seven major trophies during six years with the Reds in the 1970s, died at the age of 75 last month.

Ahead of the fixture on Tyneside, a wreath was laid at the stadium in Keegan’s memory on behalf of Liverpool FC by Sir Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush.

A display inside the ground, organised by Wor Flags, was created by home and away fans, and a centre-circle mosaic formed.

Both squads wore warm-up shirts bearing Keegan’s name and famous No.7, before wearing black armbands during the game itself.

Before kick-off, a minute’s applause was held in honour of ‘Mighty Mouse’.
