Read the matchday programme notes from Jordan Henderson ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The captain writes: "Consistency has evaded us for too much of this season and we know this has to change, which is why although we're happy with our improved form over the last couple of games it won't count for a great deal unless we maintain it.

"That is the overriding message going into today's game against Nottingham Forest: keep up the good work and don't allow standards to drop.

"There were a lot of pleasing aspects about the way that we played against Arsenal, a game we were unfortunate not to win, and the most important thing was that we took them into our next fixture away to Leeds. We know from experience, both good and bad, that this is the only way to become consistent.

"Enough has been said about where we have fallen short this season and there will come a point when the campaign ends when we are able to take stock properly and look to build again, but for now our only focus is to finish as strongly as possible.

"We do not know where this might take us, but what is always the case is that the best way of starting the next season well is by finishing the current one well. That is our focus and we have to take it into today's game against a Nottingham Forest side which has its own reasons for wanting and needing a strong finish.

"Our memories of our previous meeting with them are not great for obvious reasons, but the one thing we should do our best to remember is how and why we fell short on that day because we do not want a repeat.

"The negatives of that day are clear, but so too are the recent positives and one that I would like to highlight is the form of Curtis Jones.

"Everyone who has played with Curtis or watched him develop from a young player to a first-team pro will not need me to tell them about his ability. He is a big talent who is capable of achieving so much and it is great to see him doing as well as he has of late.

"As everyone knows, Curtis has had more than his fair share of injury problems this season and when that happens, particularly at a young age, it costs you opportunity, rhythm and form. Hopefully Curtis has overcome these challenges now and can maintain the form which has earned him a lot of deserved plaudits.

"I also want to praise the supporters who have attended our last couple of games. A lot has been said and written about tragedy chanting and the need for it to stop, but it is also important that we acknowledge the work that supporters do to create a better atmosphere.

"We saw this in the games against Arsenal and Leeds and I think it's fair to say that what happened on those occasions set a standard for everyone else to follow.

"The respect that Arsenal – the club and their supporters – showed as we commemorated the 34th anniversary of Hillsborough is something that should be held up as an example for all. This was football at its very best – a community united in solidarity and remembrance. As club captain I could not be more appreciative of the way they conducted themselves.

"The same goes for Leeds on Monday night and the way they paid their respects. I know there was a lot of work that went on behind the scenes in the build-up to the game involving both clubs and our respective supporters' trusts. The value of these efforts could be seen and heard in the positive atmosphere that was created at Elland Road.

"I know there is still a lot of work to do if we want to see tragedy chanting eradicated once and for all, but by working together, showing respect, understanding one another and learning from each other, all involved have set a tone which can only improve things.

"I'm also led to believe that Forest and their fans have their own plans for today so while we should absolutely highlight when things go wrong, by the same token we should also highlight the positive efforts that are being made.

"I think they represent the best of all of us and, most importantly of all, hopefully they will make a difference."
