Liverpool are determined to build on an encouraging run of form by kicking on further in the final weeks of the season, Jordan Henderson has stated.

The Reds head into Sunday’s Anfield meeting with Tottenham Hotspur having won their last three Premier League matches while putting together a five-game unbeaten run in the division.

But Henderson insists nobody in the dressing room is getting carried away as they strive to rediscover the level of consistency that has been their hallmark in recent years.

“What was most pleasing was how we came through as a team, especially after going a goal down to a side which always gives opponents a proper test,” the captain writes of Wednesday’s win at West Ham United in his official matchday programme notes.

“The gaffer was particularly pleased with the way we responded to that setback and so were we. This is a quality that underpinned a lot of our success in previous seasons and I think if you want to achieve in football it has to be an essential part of your armoury because you are never going to have everything your own way.

“Also, the more you do it, the more you are able to do it because it breeds confidence and a belief that even if you’re caught by a sucker-punch it does not mean you have to go on and lose the fight.

“On Wednesday night we dusted ourselves down and then went again, which meant our reaction gave us as much satisfaction as the result that it underpinned.

“Importantly, it also allowed us to maintain our recent improved form, which goes back a bit further than the three back-to-back victories we have recorded because we also produced a really strong performance after going a couple of goals down against Arsenal a few weeks ago.

“I make no apologies for banging on about consistency because this is something we have to achieve if we want to keep on improving. It is definitely good to see that we have taken some good steps in this direction, but this is no time to enjoy the moment.

“We have to kick on from here, hopefully starting with the game against Tottenham.”
