ReactionJeremie Frimpong: It's all about fitness - and we're getting there
The Netherlands international featured for the second half of the Reds’ friendly against AC Milan on Saturday in front of almost 50,000 supporters inside Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium.
Arne Slot’s men were beaten 4-2 in the end and left disappointed by the result, though Frimpong insisted minutes in the legs is the most important aspect.
On not liking to lose, the summer signing told Liverpoolfc.com: “Of course. Even though it’s pre-season, no-one likes to lose. But pre-season is to get fit. We’re getting there and we’re getting fit.
“[The plan was] to press them and create chances with the players we have. And we did create some chances but we weren’t clinical enough.”
Frimpong was deployed in a wide attacking role on the right flank when he was introduced versus Milan and threatened on several occasions.
Asked about his use in that position, the former Bayer Leverkusen player detailed how he will approach any task with the same enthusiasm.
“For me, anywhere I play, I play the same,” Frimpong replied.
“I’m an attacking full-back so if I play right wing, right-back, right wing-back, I play the same anyway. So, wherever the manager wants to play me, that’s where I play.”
The club’s tour of Asia will move on to Japan on Sunday, where Liverpool will meet Yokohama F. Marinos before returning to Merseyside.
This extended period of time in close proximity with his new teammates on and off the pitch has been welcomed by Frimpong.
“I knew a few of the boys so obviously it made it easier for me,” he said. “All the boys are great, we all get along so it makes it easier for all of us.”
The 24-year-old also had a final word for the support the Reds have received throughout the past week being based in Hong Kong.
Around 25,000 fans attended an open training session on Thursday and the crowd figure for the clash with Milan was a new record for a Hong Kong football match.
“Amazing,” said Frimpong. “Obviously the fans in Hong Kong are really amazing. I didn’t expect this, to be honest. It’s really, really amazing.
“My dad called me yesterday, to be fair. He was like, ‘Enjoy every moment.’”
