James Balagizi has joined Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2023-24 season after signing a new Liverpool contract today.

The Academy midfielder will link up with the League One side as he seeks further senior experience following a spell with Crawley Town last term.

Balagizi, an England youth international, made 16 appearances and scored three goals for Crawley during the first half of the 2022-23 campaign.

He has been with the Reds since arriving as an U11 and signed a new contract last summer having been named as a substitute for the senior team twice during 2021-22.

Balagizi has again penned an extension with Liverpool before joining up with Wigan, who begin the new League One season away at Derby County on August 5.
