Video'It makes you harder' - Alexander Isak recalls football roots in 'Backyard Dreams'
In the short film, available to watch below, the Liverpool No.9 recalls his roots in Sweden and how he honed his talents as a youngster.
“A small neighbourhood in Stockholm, a lot of diversity,” says Isak of his childhood. “A nice place to grow up for me.
“We had a football pitch where we used to gather. It would be family, it would be friends, anyone who would come outside.
“I liked playing with older people so some of them were even 10 or 15 years older than me. It makes you a little bit harder and helps your development, for sure.”
Now, of course, Isak is playing at the highest levels in the Premier League and Champions League with the Reds.
And he is currently representing Sweden at the World Cup, where he marked his first appearance in the tournament with a goal and two assists.
“Growing up in Stockholm, Sweden, you have dreams but the most realistic dream is probably making it to the league in Sweden,” the striker reflects.
“It’s really big, my first World Cup.
“It’s something that’s really nice, not just for the players but also for the nation. How everyone comes together and supports, it’s really nice.”
