MatchIpswich Town v Liverpool: Team news

The attacker has been training with the Reds squad after completing his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the week.

But the fact Barcola has not played since France's World Cup third-place match with England on July 18 will be a consideration for Andoni Iraola when deciding whether his bow comes from the start or as a substitute.

"He trained well with us," Iraola said at a press conference on Thursday morning. "If everything goes well [in] today's training also, he will definitely be available for tomorrow, yes."

Asked whether Barcola is able to start, the head coach continued: "It's a good question, it's a good question.

"I see him in a good place. He has trained with us in three trainings. It's true that he hasn't had minutes in pre-season but he has been training normal with the group. Then it's a decision we have to make.

"I think he's in a good place but we also have to consider that he hasn't had the minutes in the pre-season games."

The Premier League clash at Portman Road comes too soon for Joe Gomez, who is expected to return to training next week following the muscle injury he sustained in pre-season.

Also remaining sidelined for Liverpool are Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni.

Dominik Szoboszlai moved to right-back in the final 20 minutes of last weekend's draw with Nottingham Forest when Jeremie Frimpong was withdrawn.

"If we have to play him as a right winger, as a right-back, as a left-back, I think he's ready to do it," Iraola said of Szoboszlai, who is in line to make his 150th appearance for Reds. "I think he wants to help the team first.

"I think it's good also to have players who can cover different positions, especially now that we have some injuries and probably we need this versatility of the players.

"Having players like Dom for me is very valuable because even in-game they allow me to change their positions."

Ipswich, meanwhile, hope to be able to call upon Emersonn, one of their 14 players signed this summer.

The Brazilian forward, who scored in their opening-weekend win over Sunderland, came off at half-time in last Sunday's defeat at Manchester United due to a knee issue.

Their head coach, Gary O'Neil, told reporters: "He's fine, he's back, he's trained this week.

"It was sort of an extreme landing and he jarred it a bit. He was in a lot of pain Sunday, wasn't moving very well, but the pain settled very, very quickly.

"The medical team did a great job with him, and the new training ground and the facilities have definitely helped. His recovery's been excellent and there are no concerns about him."

Elsewhere, Azor Matusiwa, Jaden Philogene and Jack Taylor remain out for the Tractor Boys.

They completed their transfer business on deadline day with the addition of attacker Zian Flemming from Burnley.

"There's loads of possibilities and loads of things we've looked at this week in training to try to cause them [Liverpool] problems," O'Neil said.

"You could go false nine against two centre-backs like Liverpool's, playing Julio [Enciso] up front and dropping him down to take the physicality and duels away from them.

"Or we can go right up against them with Zian if we want, even put two up against them with Zian and Emi and be really direct."
