Round-upInternationals: Cody Gakpo scores with nine Liverpool players in action on Thursday
Forward Gakpo netted a first-half equaliser for a Netherlands team captained by Virgil van Dijk as they hosted Spain in the first leg of their League A quarter-final in the UEFA Nations League.
Both players started and finished the tie in Rotterdam, which ended 2-2 after Spain levelled in stoppage time.
Endo, meanwhile, skippered Japan to a 2-0 home victory over Bahrain that confirmed the Samurai Blue as the first nation to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
Elsewhere in the Nations League, Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson met as Greece hosted Scotland in a League A/B play-off first leg. Robertson came out on top as he captained the visitors to a 1-0 win in Piraeus.
Caoimhin Kelleher was part of the Republic of Ireland side that won 2-1 away to Bulgaria in the first leg of their League B/C play-off, but it was a disappointing evening for Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Konate was substituted at half-time of France’s 2-0 loss to Croatia in the first leg of their League A quarter-final, while Szoboszlai’s Hungary were defeated 3-1 by Turkiye in leg one of their League A/B play-off.
Finally, Academy forward Josh Sonni-Lambie came off the bench in the second half of England U18s’ 2-2 friendly draw with Czechia.
