NewsInternationals: Ceri Holland heroic for Wales as Reds advance in Euro play-offs

The midfielder scored a decisive 112th-minute goal in Cardiff to give her nation a 2-0 win over Slovakia in the qualification play-offs for Women’s Euro 2025.

Holland converted a rebound from inside the area after Kayleigh Barton had struck the post, with the strike standing after a VAR review.

Wales, for whom Gemma Evans also played the entirety of the round-one second leg, moved through to the next stage 3-2 on aggregate.

They will face off against the Republic of Ireland to reach next year’s tournament after the latter saw off Georgia 3-0 in Dublin to win 9-0 overall, with Leanne Kiernan a 73rd-minute introduction from the bench and Niamh Fahey an unused substitute.

And two more Reds were able to celebrate progress from the first round of the qualification play-offs for the European Championship.

Marie Höbinger completed the full game for Austria in Ried im Innkreis as they beat Slovenia 2-1 to wrap up a 5-1 aggregate win.

Jenna Clark, too, was involved for 90 minutes, helping Scotland advance with a 4-0 defeat of Hungary (5-0 on aggregate) in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, Mia Enderby and Lucy Parry both started for England U23s in a 1-0 friendly win against Portugal in Shrewsbury.

Enderby featured for 67 minutes and Parry 64, with Reds teammate Hannah Silcock an unused substitute.
