Wataru Endo detailed his hunger to contribute in Liverpool's Premier League showdown with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

The league's top two sides entering the weekend face each other at Anfield in another instalment of a fixture that's been filled with an abundance of quality and jeopardy in recent seasons.

Endo, who came on as a late substitute in November's 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium, can't wait to be in the middle of what's set to be a cauldron of passion in L4.

"I think it's going to be a crazy, crazy atmosphere," the No.3 told Liverpoolfc.com. "I'm going to enjoy this game and we want to win this game.

"I'm very excited to play this game, so I will just try to get ready and try to do what I did before. I will try to do my best."

Pep Guardiola's City are the Premier League's third-highest scorers in 2023-24 so far, possessing the current leader in the hunt for the Golden Boot in Erling Haaland.

Endo knows he'll have to be at the top of his game to help limit the attacking threat of the visitors.

He said: "Offensively they play very well and they have a lot of good attackers, so I have to try to stop them in the middle – I think that's my job. I will get ready for that."

Liverpool, of course, can also make use of their elite talent in the final third, as was evidenced again in Thursday night's 5-1 win at Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

Darwin Nunez scored two brilliant goals in Czechia and was joined on the scoresheet by Alexis Mac Allister, Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Mohamed Salah also returned from injury to play the final quarter of an hour at Stadion Letna.

"The way we are playing at the moment is great," Endo continued. "We have injured players but we keep winning. We just focus on the next game and we play all together.

"I'm very happy to see them [Salah and Szoboszlai] back on the pitch. Like our fans, we were waiting for them to come back.

"So, we are in a good way [and] we just try to get ready for the next game."
