The Liverpool duo were today included on the eight-man shortlist for the prize, alongside Riccardo Calafiori, Jack Grealish, Marc Guehi, Erling Haaland, Joao Pedro and Antoine Semenyo.

The champions won all three of their top-flight matches last month, with Ekitike and Szoboszlai starting each victory.

Summer signing Ekitike scored two goals and provided an assist during August, while Szoboszlai excelled at right-back in the wins over Newcastle United and Arsenal. Indeed, the No.8’s stunning free-kick settled the Anfield clash with the Gunners.
