News'He's a very special player' - Jeremie Frimpong excited by Florian Wirtz reunion at Liverpool
Wirtz has followed in Frimpong’s footsteps by joining the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, meaning the close friends will continue to be teammates.
The duo shared four-and-a-half successful seasons at the Bundesliga club and Frimpong is excited by the prospect of linking back up with Wirtz as fresh additions to the Premier League champions’ squad.
When asked what Liverpool supporters can expect from the Germany playmaker, Frimpong told Sky Sports: “Just expect a winner. He’s a very, very, very special player and for me, he’s a very hard-working guy. The league will love him – I haven’t got to talk too much, just watch him!
“Flo, he doesn’t crumble under pressure – he likes pressure. He’s a guy that likes pressure. I feel like when you’re on the pitch you forget about everything, you just enjoy football, you just play and Flo is one of the guys who makes you enjoy football, just seeing how he plays.
“He’s going to be perfect and he’s playing with Liverpool players [too] – so he’s going to be perfect. He’s going to be fine.”
Frimpong and Wirtz were key members of the Leverkusen team that won the league and cup double while going unbeaten throughout the entire 2023-24 domestic season.
And the Netherlands international has set his sights on lifting more silverware at Anfield.
He added: “For me, I play for trophies so I want to win trophies. Obviously I don’t want to talk too much and say, ‘We’re going to win that, that and that,’ but I want to win. That’s why I play football.”
