In the first of a new Liverpoolfc.com series featuring guest blogs from Reds-supporting musicians, Michael Aldag – a solo artist from West Kirby – shares with us his passion for the club…

Some of my earliest memories were of playing football wearing an oversized LFC shirt bestowed on me by my dad.

After that, I remember having a borderline unhealthy obsession with Fernando Torres. I’d save all my pocket money to buy the new shirt with his name on the back. I went through them recently, I had nine in total. Safe to say, the day he left for Chelsea was the day I experienced my first heartbreak.

I was absolutely overjoyed when we got Jürgen Klopp as manager. I was sat on a train refreshing my web browser to see if it had been confirmed or not and when it did I got a bit too excited and the other people on the Merseyrail carriage looked a bit perturbed… obviously they didn’t understand what a big moment that was for me!

When we won the Champions League I was in town watching it with my mates and I’ve never experienced anything like that before or since. After the game ended I walked through the city to meet my family and it was euphoric! All the cars were just blaring their horns and people were just legging it about with their tops off. I’ll never forget it.

Growing up being such a massive fan, I couldn’t believe it when LFC asked if I’d like to be part of a photoshoot they were doing, I went along just as things were opening up again after the pandemic and I took my sister. It was brilliant, I got to wear all the new training gear for that season. You can imagine my further surprise and delight when I saw the photos in the club shop in town. My mates all started messaging me photos and I was the smuggest person on Merseyside for a good six months.

I’m very excited for this season. The team are off to such a promising start, the new midfield looks full of life, especially Szoboszlai. I’m really excited for this season. Nunez too looks so dangerous. I just hope the new signings continue to gel and we can challenge for the title as well as win the Europa League. The squad looks reinvigorated and scary for other teams to face us. It feels like we’re on the way back to where we belong.

Being a musician, one of the feelings I live for is to be on stage performing in front of people, the buzz of that is addictive. The closest feeling I’ve had to that off stage is when I’m at a game and ‘YNWA’ starts playing. You feel part of something bigger than you, your hairs stand on end, it’s magical. Now that the stadium has opened for gigs, my dream would be to sell out Anfield one day.

I’ve been lucky enough to do some amazing gigs in the city recently. In May I performed on the docks in front of 8,000 people during Eurovision, and I also performed outside the stadium before the Tottenham home game last season where Jota got the winner – that was a great day.

I’ve been lucky enough to have some of my tracks played in the stadium pre-game, which is just insane to me and still doesn’t feel real!

I’ve got a tour coming up in October/November, which is my biggest one yet. It’s called the ‘Searching For Validation’ Tour and it’s throughout the UK and Ireland. The closest gig to Liverpool is Manchester (rest assured I’m having words with my live agent about this!). Tickets are available on my website or via my Instagram if anyone wants to come!
