Harvey Elliott believed Liverpool let a good result fall out of their grasp at Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday evening.

The Reds fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat on the south coast at Amex Stadium in their final away Premier League fixture of the 2024-25 campaign.

Arne Slot's champions twice took the lead over their hosts, as Elliott opened the scoring from close range thanks to good work from Conor Bradley in the build-up.

Yasin Ayari later levelled, ahead of Dominik Szoboszlai netting to put the Reds back in front in added time at the end of the first half.

However, two goals from substitutes Kaoru Mitoma and Jack Hinshelwood in the closing stages handed the points to the Seagulls.

"It was a game where each team had dominance throughout it," Elliott told Sky Sports post-match. "At times we were on top, at times they were on top. I think that's what you get when you play against a well-coached team and a very good team in Brighton.

"They caused us many problems but [it was] just the final stages; we didn't put up the fight for enough time and the goal at the end was costly and it slipped through our hands."

On how difficult it has been to maintain momentum in the latter part of the season, he said: "It's very hard because you're trying not to get too carried away with the celebrations and the enjoyment.

"We've worked really hard throughout the season and these points in the season now where we're just playing the games. Some lads like myself, for example, who haven't played this much in the season, it's just about going out and enjoying it and enjoying these kind of games.

"But at the end of the day we want to win as well. It's not a game where we just turn up and we just want to get through it. We want to get three points and we want to keep winning.

"But we just need to take the positives and take it into the final game [on Sunday]."
