Reaction'Hard to take' - Curtis Jones on late frustration for Liverpool at Fulham
Curtis Jones reflected on a final result that was "hard to take" after Liverpool drew 2-2 with Fulham on Sunday.
The Reds fell behind to a Harry Wilson strike at Craven Cottage but levelled the Premier League fixture through Florian Wirtz midway into the second half, both goals approved via VAR offside reviews.
Arne Slot's men seemed set to complete a turnaround when Cody Gakpo nudged in a second for the visitors four minutes into added time.
But Harrison Reed fired a long-range effort into the top corner before the last whistle to force the points to be shared.
Jones gave his assessment of the match when speaking to Liverpoolfc.com afterwards. Read the No.17's reaction below.
On the feelings after the ending of the game...
In the first half we had the ball a lot, we tried and it didn't come off as much. At half-time we spoke about that we've got to show more heart and things like that. That's what we went and did. We came back with two goals and then they go and score a goal like that. It's hard to take.
On how this draw compares to the preceding 0-0 against Leeds United...
If you're giving away a lead, especially at a time like this when we need all our points, it's always hard. I definitely think it was a better game all round than the Leeds game, 100 per cent. But as I said, we always want to come away with all three points, that's what we'll always try. It doesn't matter if we're playing against any team away, for the talent on the pitch and things like that, I feel like we should go and win games like that.
On his position and responsibilities changing on the day...
Yes, 100 per cent. I've been playing as a No.8, now I played more as a winger/No.10. At the end of the day, I just want to go and play and want to help the team. I've been used as a full-back, used off the right, I've been used as a No.10, a No.8, a No.6, a No.9. As long as I'm there and I can help the team, that's what I'll try to do.
As I always say, if I look left and right in the changing room, I always see the talent around, so a lad who is going to come in and play eight, he's never going to be a downgrade. I'd never say he's better than me but he will always have a quality but in a different way for what the team needs. We made a change, we tried to bring all the lads in [who were] available and it just wasn't quite enough. But we go again.
On the Reds being nine games unbeaten heading into a clash with Arsenal on Thursday...
It's a big one but all games are big. And I've said already, especially now when we need all our points. Arsenal is a huge, huge game; they are on a great run and obviously they are top of the league. Of course, the first game they played against us, we obviously won, so they'll be trying to get revenge on us. We're going there with our heads high and we'll go and try to win.
