NewsGrace Fisk wins Liverpool FC Women's Player of the Month award for March

The defender claims the prize for the first time in her Reds career after brilliant form for Matt Beard's side.

Fisk finished first in a poll for supporters on Liverpoolfc.com, just ahead of teammates Ceri Holland and Leanne Kiernan in second and third respectively.

Upon receiving the trophy at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, the No.4 said: "Obviously it's a very nice award to be given. Beardy told me at the team meeting on Friday morning and it was really nice.

"We had some good results in March and it's nice to be voted for by our supporters.

"It's nice the supporters have seen the hard work I've been putting in and they have been really welcoming to me since I came into the club, and I'm very thankful to them for voting for me."

Fisk, a summer addition after spending three-and-a-half seasons with West Ham United, began March by scoring her first goal for the club to kickstart a 4-1 victory away at Aston Villa.

She played every minute of Liverpool's five fixtures in the month, including a 3-1 home win over West Ham, to help the team gain a firm grip of fifth spot in the Barclays Women's Super League.

"That win at Villa now feels ages away but it started well, it was a convincing win and I was glad to get my first goal," she added.

"My effort was on target so I will take it. The first half it was a bit open but in the second half we put our authority on the game and we deserved the win.

"It was a convincing win against West Ham and one we deserved, we played well and scored some good goals."

Fisk has settled so well into her Liverpool environment and admits it feels as though she has been at the club for a good while now.

"I love Liverpool, I love the club, I love the girls and I love the city so I'm really enjoying my time here," she said.

"It's special being at the AXA Melwood Training Centre. I actually think it's helped me with it being everyone's first year here as well.

"We are very lucky to have such a world-class facility and you can see that with our results and performances this season and where we are in the league.

"It's been really nice working with Beardy again. We have a really good relationship and it's lovely working with him and long may it continue."

With four games remaining in the Barclays Women's Super League this season, Fisk is hoping the Reds can finish as high as possible in the division.

Beard's side are hot on the heels of fourth-placed Manchester United and are back in action on Saturday after the break when they take on Bristol City at Ashton Gate (kick-off 12.30pm BST).

Fisk said: "It's crazy how fast this season has gone and there are only four games left but we have a lot to play for, we are working hard in training, Beardy won't let up and neither will we.

"We will keep pushing and try to finish as high up in the table as we can.

"It's actually quite nice to have a full week of training leading into this game at Bristol City, it's a massive game and one we are looking to get three points from.

"Bristol City are very good at keeping low scorelines and have lost games by the odd goal so they are a tough team to face, but it's one that we are really looking to put our stamp on the game and get three points."
