The Reds moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to a second-half turnaround that included a decisive double from Mohamed Salah at St Mary’s.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s precise finish had put Arne Slot’s side ahead on the half-hour mark, before Adam Armstrong equalised by converting the rebound after Caoimhin Kelleher had saved his penalty close to half-time.

Mateus Fernandes then edged Southampton in front in the early stages of the second period, but the league leaders would go on to secure victory as Salah first levelled and then calmly scored from the spot seven minutes from time.
