New Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni has earned a first senior international call-up for Italy.

The centre-back, who joined the Premier League champions from Parma earlier this month, had previously been capped by his country up to U19 level.

Gennaro Gattuso’s first squad selection since being appointed the Azzurri head coach features Leoni, with Italy to face Estonia and Israel in World Cup qualifiers in September.
