NewsGareth Taylor column: Olsson's scoring form, Enderby potential and a busy December

It was great to get the win at Sheffield United in the Subway Women's League Cup before the break and I felt it was a really good performance.

The only downside was conceding from a set-play, which was frustrating, but it was a game that the girls really dominated. They showed real character and personality in their performance.

It was a performance that really showed a strong identity to the way we are playing and the way things are going.

Beata Olsson grabbed the headlines with a hat-trick and I've been really impressed with her.

Beata didn't go away with Sweden in the last international break, so it allowed us to have two really solid weeks training with her – the same with Cornelia Kapocs.

We want these players to go away with their respective nations. But when they don't go away, it just gives us good one-to-one time with the players.

We put Beata back into the team against Tottenham and she scored her first goal for us and scored in every game since, so you can't knock that as she has been really impressive in front of goal.

There are still more things to come from her in her game that we can improve. But with her attitude and her work ethic, I think that's the best asset Beata has.

She is really open to learning and keep improving. She is really honest with where she is at and where she wants to be. I've been really impressed with her.

It was important for Mia Enderby to get her first goal of the season. I think it gives her confidence because she has been getting closer and closer.

She scored a really good goal and I think the way she took it was top, the way she received the ball and the way she jinked past the player and finished it off.

I think Mia has definitely got those capabilities to get more goals. Again, we are trying to squeeze as much as we can out of her in various positions.

I see Mia as a player with good potential but she has to work really hard at her game to get those sort of returns.

We now have a home game against Chelsea in the quarter-finals and we can definitely take a lot of heart from our performance recently against them in the Barclays Women's Super League.

This will feel different with it being a cup game and effectively winner takes all. A home tie for us is important, particularly as we now have three away games.

We've done some quite good work with the players during this international break.

Leanne Kiernan returned early, so she did some extra training with us because Ireland only had one game.

We now face a pretty hectic schedule of three away games in the WSL, starting with Saturday's trip to play Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal, of course, have two of our former players in Olivia Smith and Taylor Hinds. They are both quality players.

These next three games with the schedule we have are going to test us physically and mentally. We will have three overnight stays, a lot of travel and recovery.

We are not going to be able to do a lot of training in between those games and I am also limited about how much I change team-wise. It's effectively play and recover with little training. But as always, we will give it everything we have got.

I just want to give our supporters a special mention as I know they, like us, are facing a lot of travel in our forthcoming games.

Your support has been really vital in us securing some improved results recently. As always, we will need you in this next week, supporting the players and the team, and we look forward to seeing you backing us as usual.

Thank you for your continued support.

YNWA,

Gareth
