NewsGareth Taylor column: Merseyside derby victory and a Women's FA Cup quarter-final
It was a fantastic win for us in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and I was really proud of the team.
It was special for our supporters and it was really nice to be able to cherish those special moments with them at the end with the team when we had our photo in front of them. I thought that was great.
We have spoken about the tough moments that we have been through this season and I think collectively you could see the unity between supporters and players.
They really stood up to the challenge and since the last international break we've had some tough challenges with two away games and the tense game at home against Leicester.
I think taking seven points out of nine is a really good return for us, with two away games thrown into that, so I am really pleased.
I thought our first-half performance was exceptional. We played some great football and Ceri Holland linked up really well with Beata Olsson and then scored a fantastic goal.
Things changed in the second half when Fisky [Grace Fisk] was sent off and that obviously changes your thinking as a coach. But I thought the players handled it really well and we stuck it out and got the win.
That has to be one of the highlights so far for us this season. It's not easy to play Everton at Goodison because their form has been good recently, but that is two wins for us against them now, which is a real positive for us.
On Sunday, we face a trip to The Valley when we play Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women's FA Cup (kick-off 2.30pm BST).
It will be a tough game as they are at the top of WSL 2 and doing well. It's good that the game is at their men's first-team stadium and it's a good surface to play on.
I think it's important now that we carry on our momentum from this recent form we have had and give ourselves a really good crack of making the semi-finals, which would be a really good achievement.
Thank you for your continued support.
YNWA,
Gareth
