NewsGareth Taylor column: Japan joy for Reds duo, Merseyside derby preview and more

Overall, I think it's not the worst point that we could have got at Brighton and we now go into the derby game against Everton with confidence.

I think it's a game we could have won looking back and if we could have just improved our final-third quality then we could have taken all three points – that final decision, that final effort.

It is important when you can't win those games that you don't lose them, so it's another valuable point and another clean sheet, which is impressive because that starts from the front and the whole team.

I thought Jennifer Falk and all of the back four were very good. I asked Fisky [Grace Fisk] to fill in at right-back again and she was excellent.

Alejandre Bernabe also gave a really strong performance and Bonns [Gemma Bonner] and Jenna Clark were really aggressive, which is what we needed.

The level of performance was pretty good overall and I felt it was a fairly even game, though we probably edged things.

Mia Enderby had a really good chance just before half-time but she couldn't keep it down and that was probably the best chance.

Jennifer has been a big calming presence for us in goal. Her communication in the backline is really good and she brings an air of confidence and real clarity on those decisions.

I want to say a big congratulations to Fuka Nagano and Risa Shimizu for winning the Asian Cup with Japan.

They had a fantastic tournament and experience, and we are really proud of what they have done. It is amazing and they did tremendously well.

It will be good to get Fuka and Risa back for this weekend as we head to Goodison Park on Saturday.

We had a great win against them in the Adobe Women's FA Cup. Of course, this will feel different but we are looking to go there on a good pitch and put in a really good performance.

Hopefully if we do those things right then we will have a good chance of winning the game, but we know how difficult these type of games are.

I thought we handled the occasion in the cup tie really well and, for me, the key thing going into it is just managing the moment really.

It's important not to get too carried away with the occasion and I think at the end of the day we look at it as just another game for us. We want to carry on the good work we are doing.

It's an opportunity to climb the table a little bit more, which is what we are looking to do between now and the end of the season.

We know we will have our supporters with us and I want to give them a special mention because they were fantastic once again down at Brighton, and hopefully we can bring them some cheer again on Saturday.

Thank you for your continued support.

YNWA,

Gareth
