In his latest column, Liverpool FC Women head coach Gareth Taylor reflects on the draw at West Ham United and looks forward to the Subway Women's League Cup quarter-final tie with Chelsea at St Helens Stadium on Sunday.

I thought the response from the team was really good at West Ham in difficult circumstances.

There were some big positives with Mia Enderby getting her first goal and Beata Olsson netting again.

The game changed when we lost Gemma Bonner and that was a tough decision for us to take. Looking back at the video evidence, it didn't look like a red card.

Of course, when you lose a player with Gemma's experience, we are not the most experienced of teams, that was difficult for the girls.

We made a few changes tactically and a few tweaks to how we set up and we made it really difficult for West Ham.

I must say, we were really disappointed to concede two goals from set-pieces and that is something we need to definitely tidy up on.

Mia scored her first goal in the WSL and, of course, we know she can deliver more because I see her as a young player with good potential and this was a positive step for her.

She got one at Sheffield United in the cup but getting her first WSL goal is important because it got us another foothold back in the game and something to hold onto.

To then concede again from another set-piece was frustrating and again we had to make some more changes to the back line because Hannah Silcock was really suffering.

Beata then did great to get us the equaliser. She had a lot of time to take after intercepting the pass and those can be the most difficult ones because sometimes the more instinctive ones are easier; when you have time there can be plenty of thoughts racing through your head.

She did really well to execute it and provide an assist for Mia, as well as clearing one off the line at the other end. I've been really pleased with her.

We would have liked to have seen what would have happened had it been 11 versus 11, but we take the point and we move on.

On Sunday we host Chelsea in the quarter-finals of the Subway Women's League Cup at St Helens Stadium.

We know it's going to be a difficult game but we've got a chance to get into the semi-final, which would be nice.

We did very well against Chelsea here recently in the WSL. We will be ready and, as always, give it everything we have got.

In my final column of 2025, I would like to wish all of our supporters a very Merry Christmas and for you all to have a fantastic time with your family and friends.

You have faced a lot of travel this past week and we massively appreciate you and the support you give us.

Thank you for your continued support.

YNWA,

Gareth
