NewsFriday internationals: Robertson sets record, Jaros debuts and Figueroa scores
Robertson skippered his country in their final warm-up game before Euro 2024, which saw them draw 2-2 with Finland at Hampden Park.
The Reds defender played his part in both of Scotland’s goals on the night, with his cross turned in for an own goal to open the scoring before a deep delivery was converted by Lawrence Shankland soon after.
Robertson was withdrawn just past the hour mark and Finland went on to score twice late on and salvage a draw.
On a personal level, Robertson’s appearance was his 49th as Scotland captain – a new national record for the men’s team.
At Wembley, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez were both second-half substitutes for England, who were beaten 1-0 by Iceland in a friendly.
Liverpool teammate Jarell Quansah was an unused substitute for the Three Lions.
Elsewhere, Vitezslav Jaros played 45 minutes of Czechia’s 7-1 friendly victory over Malta, making his senior international debut.
The Reds goalkeeper was sent on from the bench at the beginning of the second half as his country contested the first of two warm-up matches ahead of Euro 2024, with North Macedonia next up on Monday.
At youth level, meanwhile, Academy forward Figueroa scored the only goal of the game as USA U19s claimed a 1-0 win against Argentina.
And Kieran Morrison provided an assist for Northern Ireland U19s in a 2-2 draw with their Slovakia counterparts in Belfast.
