ReactionFabio Carvalho: Champions League debut was a dream come true

Jürgen Klopp handed the 20-year-old his first European start since joining Liverpool in the summer during the Group A clash at Ibrox.

Carvalho – who spoke to Liverpoolfc.com post-match – completed the full 90 minutes for his side on a special night in Glasgow.

On the victory…

It was a good night. We needed it as a team and for me personally as well I needed that for my confidence. We got the three points and what a way to get the three points.

On close friend Elliott’s first Champions League goal…

Even when the decision went his way for the goal, I was celebrating it like it was my goal! I’m just so happy for him because he had an outstanding game. This time I didn’t get a goal but it’s equally as good for him to get the goal.

On what it’s like playing alongside Firmino and Salah regularly…

It’s the best thing to be able to go in every day at the AXA and train with the best players in the world. That’s what I’m trying to emulate and that’s what I’m trying to add to my game. Seeing them every day and just learning from the best, that’s what I’m here for and hopefully one day I’ll be doing what they are doing.

On the lift that the squad can have from the result…

We needed that. Going into Sunday is a big game and we need to focus on that. The result went our way today and what a way to get the win, but our focus is on Sunday now and we can’t be dwelling on this game. Obviously, we know what we [have] done well and we know what we can improve on, and the result today will give us confidence for Sunday.

On getting to experience the Champions League…

Yeah, Champions League is what everyone dreams of as a little kid to play in and today I made my debut and played the whole game. It was a dream come true.

On the prospect of facing Manchester City…

We have big players who perform on the highest stages. It’s a big game so we have the big players for it. It’s a big game, a big occasion, and I’m sure if we give it our all and we work hard a good result will come our way.
