ReactionFabinho: We'll keep fighting in the title race

The Reds claimed a hard-fought point at Anfield on Saturday night after Luis Diaz’s deflected strike cancelled out Heung-Min Son's second-half opener.

Jürgen Klopp’s side moved top of the table on goal difference with the draw, ahead of Manchester City’s game at home to Newcastle United this afternoon.

Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham: Highlights

Fabinho gave his verdict on the stalemate with Spurs to Liverpoolfc.com post-match – read on for the full interview…

On whether the draw felt more like a defeat…

Yes, a little bit. Of course, we want to win all the games. In the position that we are in the league now we needed the three points, but we are still alive. We are still fighting. Tottenham played a really good game. They are one of the best teams playing counter-attacking. We defended quite well, they didn’t create much but with the quality that they have they scored one goal. It was good for us to score Luis’ goal and put pressure on them but it’s 1-1 – one point. We take it. We keep fighting.

On the fight he and his teammates showed after going behind…

Yes, we know we can’t stop. The fans today were just unbelievable. The fans were pushing us. When we scored the first goal we had the sensation that we want to score the second because the fans were on fire. We try until the end. It’s not easy playing every three days in a good level. We did a good game in general. We didn’t win, but we have positive things to take from this game.

On competing with City in the race for the Premier League title…

We know we are fighting against one of the best teams in the world. We know if we lose points in the fight against Man City, maybe it can cost the title. But we are human beings [and] they are human beings as well. We will hope they will lose points, and as I said before, we will keep fighting and try to win the next game against Aston Villa.

On the full-time reaction at Anfield showing that the fight carries on…

It’s nice to hear them singing after the game. They know we tried and fight. It’s not easy to score a goal against Tottenham. They play really deep. They had good defenders and we tried. It’s nice to have their support and hopefully they will keep supporting us until the end.
