Guest blog'This era of Liverpool is definitely the one that had the most impact on me'

I've been a Liverpool fan for as long as I can remember. It's a part of who I am.

I can't think of a time in my life when LFC hasn't played a part in some way. Like most fans, my fanatical side stemmed from my dad. He's been supporting the Reds since the glory days in the 1980s and naturally his love for the club rubbed off on me as I grew up.

My obsession with football came to a head when I was in primary school. I have such vivid memories of wandering round to the local Post Office with my mum and spending my hard-earned pocket money on Match Attax.

I'm proud to say I completed the 2009 binder in full, but my most prized possession was a 100-club card of Fernando Torres. He is the reason I fell head over heels with Liverpool.

Of course, when I finally got my hands on a shirt with his name, he left the club, and I was devastated. But Luis Suarez soon filled the Torres-shaped hole in my heart. It's incredible to look back to see how far our team has developed since these days.

The arrival of Jürgen Klopp was a revelation to me. This era of Liverpool is definitely the one that had the most impact on me. Over the last nine years I've shared so many special memories with my dad and friends – from winning the Champions League and Premier League in consecutive seasons to fierce contests with Manchester City and building such a strong squad.

But the 'Miracle on Merseyside' stands out from the rest. It was the day before my birthday, too, making it the best gift possible! We didn't stand a chance and yet, against all odds, we made it happen against Barcelona. I think that sums Liverpool up – they are total mentality giants.

That's what makes this club so beautiful, that even when the odds are stacked against us, we always find a way.

When I found out that our band, The Florentinas, had been added to the club playlist, I was beside myself! I was straight on the phone to my dad to tell him. It felt so surreal to think that our songs were on the pre-match playlist.

If I could go back and tell seven-year-old Paddy what had just happened, he'd think I was having him on! It still doesn't feel real to me.

Being an Irishman means it's difficult to get to many games, but I was fortunate enough to make a trip to the Bayer Leverkusen game last season. Hearing You'll Never Walk Alone made me well up. Even the Germans sang in unison with their scarves in the sky.

That song transcends football entirely, whether you're Scouse, German, Spanish or any other nationality – it unifies people. It's a language of its own.

Being a musician, there's no feeling like performing in front of people. We've just returned home from a UK tour with Snow Patrol and we got a taste of what it was like playing to crowds of thousands each night and being received so well. It was a totally surreal experience. My goal is to be able to do that someday as the headliner.

Ultimately, my dream is to combine my love for music with my passion for Liverpool by selling out Anfield. I saw some photos from Dua Lipa's recent gig and it looked incredible, so now I've got my sights set!

I was heartbroken to hear the tragic news about Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. I'm still trying to process it. I found it hard even to work that day, I was just so distracted by the shock of it. Liverpool has lost such a valuable person, and I think it will take a while for us as fans to come to terms with it. I can't even begin to imagine how his family and fellow teammates must feel.

I'm going to miss his clutch goals and clinical finishing, but No.20 will live on forever: 'He's better than Figo, don't you know. Oh, his name is Diogo.'

I'm really looking forward to the season ahead, especially after winning the league again. I'm particularly excited to see our new signings in action. This is the busiest summer I can remember as a Liverpool fan! I have high hopes.

Another title would be insane, especially if it means overtaking Manchester United. Teams need to watch out this season!

We have a new single out at the minute called The Scary Thing Is. It navigates the theme of wanting to make it but dealing with the fact that nothing is guaranteed. We're really proud of this one and it's only two minutes long! So, even if you have a short attention span, I'm sure you'll dig it. You can check it out now on any major streaming platform.

We also have some big plans and hope to release an album early next year, so stay tuned.

'The Scary Thing Is' by The Florentinas is out now.
