Emma Koivisto feels it's a huge honour to sign for Liverpool FC Women and follow in the footsteps of fellow Finn Sami Hyypia.

The Finland international becomes Matt Beard’s first signing this summer after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

The 27-year-old is currently with her national team preparing to play at Women’s Euro 2022.

Read on as Koivisto discusses her dream move to the Reds…

On how pleased she is to join LFC Women…

I feel really honoured to be able to play for Liverpool. Me and my brother, we used to be big Liverpool fans growing up. Sami Hyypia, a Finnish legend, was playing for the club when we were kids.

On whether it was an easy decision to sign when Liverpool expressed their interest…

I would say so, yes. This club, everyone knows Liverpool and it really is an honour to join this club.

On what she thinks of when she hears the word ‘Liverpool’

I think ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ comes to my mind first. It feels like a family. The fans, I’ve heard that they are really good and follow the team everywhere so I’m really excited to join this club.

On what qualities and attributes she can bring to the team…

I think I’m a quite versatile player. I’m an attacking-minded full-back so I like to go forward so hopefully I can help the team to attack and defend as well.

On having Barclays Women’s Super League experience from her time at Brighton…

I hope I can bring some experience from the WSL because I have played in that league for one-and-a-half seasons now. I have international experience and have many caps with the Finland national team, so hopefully I can bring some experience to the team.

On looking forward to competing in the Women’s Euros with Finland…

It’s really exciting that we are in the Euros and it’s going to be a busy summer. It’s a big dream to play in this tournament and I’m really excited to be playing in it.

On how she can’t wait to get started at Liverpool…

I think I have a week off after the tournament. I will relax and spend some time with my family and then it will be time to come here. I’m really excited to come to Liverpool and experience something new.
