The Hungary captain recommitted his future to the Reds earlier this month by signing a new long-term contract.

He is currently among the most senior players on pre-season tour in the USA, where Andoni Iraola’s team made it two wins in a row on Wednesday.

A 1-0 defeat of Wrexham in New York followed a 4-2 victory over Sunderland in Nashville last weekend in which Szoboszlai was a scorer.

Liverpool will complete their time in the States by facing Leeds United at Soldier Field on Sunday, and Szoboszlai attended a pre-match press conference today.

“The training centre is amazing. I think everything is here what a football player needs,” he said of the squad’s two-week stay in Chicago.

“The city, as much as we could go outside for a little walk, maybe a coffee, is very nice. The places are nice as well. The people are very friendly. So yeah, I’m happy to be here.

“I think the two games [so far] were maybe a little bit different than the game that’s going to be played in Chicago [versus Leeds] because obviously we have Ryan [Gravenberch], Flo [Wirtz] and Alex [Isak] back, who played a big role last season as well and the season before, I mean Ryan.

“I’m looking forward to it and hopefully we can be even better than the last two games.”

Asked by the press about agreeing fresh terms to remain with the Reds, the No.8 replied: “I’m very happy. I said it before.

“Actually, it was a long way until we got over the line but I’m happy to sign a new deal. Hopefully I can stay as long as both sides want and win everything that is possible, as I said when I signed here first.

“I’m saying the same things [when] I signed now. I want to win everything that is possible, achieve big things and just be there for the club.”

A new phase has begun, of course, following the appointment of Iraola as Liverpool’s head coach ahead of 2026-27.

Change within the squad, too, and Szoboszlai – entering his fourth campaign at the Reds – is eager and ready to take greater personal responsibility.

“A couple of club legends left the club, but I think the club is still the club it has been always. So, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said.

“So now someone left, someone came, we have to step up, we have to be an example for the younger generation maybe. I’m not saying I’m old but I try to be also an example on the pitch, off the pitch.

“I try to help everyone. And I think many players think in the same way like I do and we want to be successful all together.”
