Diogo Jota was delighted with the reaction Liverpool showed as they chalked up a 3-0 Premier League win over Brentford on Sunday.

Following dropped points at Luton Town last weekend and a Europa League defeat in Toulouse, the Reds marked their return to Anfield with victory.

Mohamed Salah netted either side of the interval to get the home team ahead and the scoring was rounded off by a clinical Jota blast – the Portuguese’s eighth club goal of 2023-24.

Post-match, Jota gave his assessment of a satisfying afternoon to Liverpoolfc.com…

On getting back to winning ways with a strong performance…

Really important to show a reaction. We had a tough week with two not-so-good results, and always [to be] back at Anfield and show a reaction with three points before the international break as well – perfect.

On whether the players spoke about the frustration of the previous two results…

Yeah, of course, especially the Luton game because obviously it is Premier League and we dropped there two points, we know that, so it was really important to get back to victories today.

On the importance of driving on at 1-0…

It was crucial to get that first goal. VAR delaying it a little bit but we finally got it and we tried to manage the game. I think the second goal is a great play, and then the third goal as well. So, a good performance and good result.

On Kostas Tsimikas providing two assists…

Yeah, two assists. It’s important for him to give him confidence as well, we need him, we need everybody. Today’s game will be important for everyone.

On being pleased to score today…

I’m always happy to score and today it was not so important because we were already 2-0 up [but] it’s always great to be on the scoresheet and settle the game. After the break we’ll be back again.

On the desire to preserve a clean sheet too…

Always massive to keep clean sheets, I think if we do that we are always very, very close to win because with the quality we have, we are able to find the net pretty much every game. We know how decisive that is and we want to do that more often.

On Salah…

He’s a goal threat, a proper goal threat. We know when he has the ball he scores, assists. He’s really important for us.
