ReactionDiogo Jota on Bournemouth comeback, team effort and attacking options
Diogo Jota credited a collective effort for Liverpool's 3-1 comeback win against AFC Bournemouth in Saturday's Premier League clash.
On their first Anfield appearance of the season, the Reds fell behind after just three minutes as Antoine Semenyo netted for the visitors.
But Luis Diaz deftly guided in an equaliser and Mohamed Salah converted the rebound from his own saved penalty before the break.
Jürgen Klopp’s side were reduced to 10 men when Alexis Mac Allister was shown a red card early in the second half but rose to the task and ensured three points, with Jota tucking in to complete the scoring.
Post-match, the Portugal international spoke to Liverpoolfc.com to analyse the encounter, a memorable home debut for Dominik Szoboszlai, the team’s attacking options and more…
On the character the Reds showed to come from a goal behind…
Yeah, I think [it was] the opposite of the first week [against Chelsea] where we started well and then we lost control. This one was quite the opposite: we didn’t start well at all and we could turn it around. So, happy for the reaction but now let’s try to mix both the games and give it a go for all the whole 90 minutes.
On the questions Liverpool were asked on the day…
Especially as well being down to 10 men and it’s still early on in the season. Everyone reacted very well, trying to help each other, even though we know we are not still at our best physically. But a great effort from everyone and very happy to get these three points.
On how the team performed after going down to 10 men…
We were joking on the bench it was almost like we were playing better with 10 than with 11! I think everyone really felt the moment to stand out, to be able to help each other, to stay closer to each other. And I think that’s what we did. We got these three points and I think it’s deserved.
On the quality displayed by Szoboszlai on his home debut…
Yeah, I think Macca as well, now playing a bit deeper and trying to help us build. Dom, you can see he is running the entire game and doesn’t feel tired. I think they will both help us. And [Wataru] Endo as well, debut [in] hard circumstances and did it quite well. So, yeah, the more time we spend together we will get better and we can develop throughout the season.
On each of the starting front three scoring…
Yeah, we know each other as well for a while. And we know we have people on the bench that can come on and make the difference, so while we are on the pitch we give absolutely everything. We all know we have the quality to make that impact in games. Firstly for the team everyone showed up today; we know throughout the season we need everyone so let’s stick together.
On the importance of Alisson Becker, who made several key saves against Bournemouth…
Yeah, like usual. Ali is always there to try to save us. I think he also deserves to get more clean sheets but we will work hard for that.
