HistoryOn this day: Robbie Fowler achieves rare LFC goal feat
In a League Cup tie with Fulham the striker – then aged 18 – became the fifth and most recent player to score five goals in a single game for the Reds’ men’s team.
Fowler’s achievement emulated John Miller (1892), Andy McGuigan (1902), John Evans (1954) and Ian Rush (1983).
His first two goals came inside the opening 21 minutes to strengthen Liverpool’s advantage in a second-round tie they already led 3-1 from the first leg.
Fowler’s hat-trick was completed within moments of the second half kicking off and the Scouser went on to help himself to two more in an exhibition of natural finishing ability on what was just his fourth senior appearance for the club.
