NewsDaniel Agger appointed to coaching role with Denmark

The ex-Red, who retired in 2016, captained his country as a player and totalled 75 senior international matches during his career.

After a spell as head coach of HB Koge, it was announced today Agger will join the backroom staff of Danish coach Morten Wieghorst.

“It’s great, I’ve missed the national team, and I’m really looking forward to getting started,” said Agger. “But I didn’t get into this just to be involved.

“I’m here to be able to give something to the players and make a difference. It’s about being able to contribute, and I’m sure that with my experience and my skills I have a lot to give to the team.”

Agger made 232 appearances and scored 14 times for Liverpool during a spell of more than eight years at Anfield that began when he joined from Brondby in January 2006.

He was back on Merseyside in March, playing the whole game for LFC Legends in a 4-2 win over Ajax Legends in the LFC Foundation charity fixture.
