Neil Mellor saluted the 'magnificent' contribution from Harvey Elliott when he came off the bench to fire the winner for Liverpool during Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace.

During his regular post-match Review Show, which is now available to watch on LFCTV GO, former Reds striker Mellor analysed how Jürgen Klopp’s men once again came from behind to claim another vital three points.

“We found a way yet again to get a bit of quality to win us the game,” he said of the Premier League result at Selhurst Park that sent Liverpool top of the table.

“For the winning goal, Mohamed Salah made a clever run, which put doubt in Nathaniel Clyne’s mind, so it opened up the space, a really good drop of the shoulder from Elliott and what a good strike it was into the corner of the net.

“I thought Harvey was magnificent when he came on and fair play to him, what a winning goal that was!

“From the word go when he came onto the pitch he really wanted to get involved and he sees the pictures on the pitch.”

Mellor also praised Salah, who with a second-half equaliser became only the fifth player in the club’s history to score 200 goals.

He added: “Salah is always finding space in the opposition penalty area and he found the back of the net to get us level.

“What people won’t realise is we would have had a penalty just before it as the referee was ready to blow for the bad tackle on Curtis Jones, but Mo found the net and the goal was given.

“To get 200 goals for the club is absolutely phenomenal!”
