Cody Gakpo has outlined the improvements made by Liverpool in recent months and reiterated his desire to bring silverware to Anfield this season.

Speaking ahead of the Reds' Europa League clash with Austrian side LASK on Thursday, the Netherlands international was asked about the differences between the team he arrived into when moving to Merseyside in January, and the one which has now lost only two of its last 30 games in all competitions, stretching back to April.

"I think we are in a different situation than we were in last year," Gakpo said. "We are doing good at the moment, we can obviously do better, but we are working hard, and we are improving.

"We are in a good moment, I would say. I think what we want to achieve this season is to win trophies together. We are on the right track, but we still have to keep going and keep winning the games."

Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota injury update

NewsAlisson Becker and Diogo Jota injury updateJürgen Klopp has confirmed both Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota are facing spells on the sidelines due to injury.

On the reasons behind Liverpool's improved form so far this season, Gakpo added: "I have to say, I think last season at the end I think we also had a good run at the end of the season and then I think everybody just said to each other that we have to continue that run and take it into the new season.

"That's what we did, we started the season off really well. It is on us now to keep going."

Gakpo himself has enjoyed an encouraging campaign, playing in numerous positions across the midfield and forward line as Liverpool have made progress in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup this term.

"Obviously I've played in a few different positions - striker, midfield and left wing," he said. "I think I can do better, obviously. You want to do better every day and become a better player all the time.

"But I think it went well and it can be better as well. It's just about working hard to become a better player."

The No.18 added: "Last season I played almost every game as a striker. This season, [I have played] as a striker or a midfielder. I just focus on those two positions really, and then just show what I can do and try to be the best player I can be."
