Caoimhin Kelleher is hoping Sunday's Carabao Cup final will somehow exceed his experience of the 2022 edition.

The goalkeeper was the hero when Liverpool last met Chelsea in the competition's showpiece two seasons ago, scoring the penalty in the shootout that set up the Reds' clinching of the trophy, having kept a clean sheet in the earlier 120 minutes of action.

Possessing unforgettable memories from that afternoon at Wembley, the 25-year-old is striving for more, as well as another winner's medal.

Asked if that was the best moment of his career so far, Kelleher told Premier League Productions: "Probably! Hopefully Sunday will be better. But obviously that was a really nice moment.

"Obviously I've got good memories of that final. It was a really nice moment for myself and the team. It'll be a good experience to draw from and hopefully we can get a good result there again.

"I've got a lot of family coming across from Ireland and friends and stuff. There's a whole crew coming over, so it'll be nice for them.

"They have obviously helped me a lot during my career, so it's a nice thing for them to go over to Wembley and to experience a final. It'll be a nice moment. They were there last time, so hopefully I can give them more of the same this time."

This latest Wembley spectacle comes less than a month after the teams faced each other at Anfield in the Premier League, when Liverpool stormed to a 4-1 win.

Kelleher would love to see another similar level of performance from Jürgen Klopp's men but is aware how the stakes are different this time around.

"I think in that game we played really well," the Republic of Ireland international said. "Maybe they didn't play to their best but I thought we played really well.

"But since that they've had some really good results and are looking good. We're expecting a really tough game. I think the last few games against Chelsea we've drawn quite a lot as well. It's going to be a tough game no matter what. It's a final as well, so it's going to be different."

Kelleher and his teammates also carry added motivation into the final with the determination to produce silverware in what is Klopp's final season in charge of the Reds.

The manager handed Kelleher his senior debut back in September 2019 for a League Cup third-round tie at MK Dons.

Kelleher finished: "He's been such a great person for this club and for me as well. He's given me an opportunity as well, so I want to repay him and I think the whole team does just to give him the send-off that he deserves.

"He's taken this club back to where it belongs and we just want to give him the right send-off."
