MatchBrentford v Liverpool: Team news

Gravenberch sustained an ankle injury last weekend against Manchester United and therefore was not involved when the Reds travelled to Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek.

Isak was taken off at half-time as Arne Slot's men won that Champions League tie 5-1, due to a groin complaint.

Speaking ahead of the clash with the Bees, the head coach admitted uncertainty about the availability of both players.

"Alex, not too bad. [A] question mark for the weekend, so let's see where he is then," said Slot on Friday morning.

"And that's the same to be said about Ryan. He didn't travel with us [to Frankfurt], so today we are in again. Yesterday we were in as well but we had a day to travel. Let's see where he is today."

Jeremie Frimpong is a confirmed absentee, meanwhile, as a result of the hamstring injury he suffered in Frankfurt on Wednesday.

Alisson Becker is not yet ready to return, and Giovanni Leoni is sidelined long term with an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

In terms of the hosts, who defeated West Ham United on Monday night, Aaron Hickey is close to recovering from the injury he sustained while away with Scotland – but this game comes too soon for the full-back.

Hickey, Josh Dasilva and Antoni Milambo are the players unavailable to their head coach, Keith Andrews.

Paris Maghoma and Gustavo Nunes featured for Brentford's B team in midweek and can be called upon for the 8pm BST kick-off.

"The players are in a good place, it's been a good week," Andrews told reporters. "Injuries are pretty much as we were, I suppose.

"Aaron Hickey won't make this weekend but he'll be back in training over the next few days. The rest of the boys are pretty much available."

Caoimhin Kelleher is one of four former Liverpool players now plying their trade at Gtech Community Stadium, along with Jordan Henderson, Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg.

The goalkeeper has started all eight of the Bees' league matches since completing his summer transfer.

Asked about Kelleher, Slot said: "He felt it was time for him to start playing – and he has shown that he is right because he is doing really well.

"And although I haven't worked with him, we are also going to face Jordan Henderson.

"In Holland they cannot stop talking about how much Ajax is missing Jordan Henderson, so that tells you how important he was for Ajax and how important he has been for Liverpool and how important he now is for Brentford."
