StatsBeata Olsson chasing WSL history for Liverpool at Aston Villa

The striker is aiming to become the first player to score in five consecutive WSL outings for the Reds at Villa Park on Thursday night (7pm GMT kick-off).

Villa’s Rachel Daly was the last player to score in five successive top-flight games for a club other than Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United (a run of six between April and October 2023).

Liverpool have won three of their last four WSL meetings with Villa, though did lose the most recent in March last season (2-1).

Villa are winless in each of their three WSL home games against the Reds, drawing once and losing twice, and those meetings have seen 14 goals scored in total (five for Villa, nine for Liverpool).

Villa have failed to win any of their four home league games this season (drew two, lost two) and have only gone winless across their opening five home matches of a WSL campaign once before (2020-21, first six games).

Only against Tottenham Hotspur (four) has Villa’s Kirsty Hanson scored more goals in the WSL than Liverpool (three), netting three times across her last four outings versus the Reds, including the equaliser in the 2-1 win for Villa back in March.

Reds head coach Gareth Taylor has only won more WSL games as a manager against Tottenham (nine) than Villa, winning eight of his 10 meetings with the Midlands club (drew one, lost one with Manchester City).

Villa have lost back-to-back WSL games for the first time since losing their first five league matches under Natalia Arroyo, part of a run of six that ended in March, and their 2-1 defeat by Tottenham last time out ended a run of six straight wins when scoring first in the division.

This will be Liverpool’s first midweek WSL match (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) since a 4-3 win against Chelsea in May 2024, and the Reds have not won a midweek top-flight game away from home since April 2018, beating Bristol City 2-0 on that occasion but going winless in four since (drew one, lost three).

Villa have won just one of their last seven midweek games in the WSL (drew two, lost four) but it was their most recent, beating Arsenal 5-2 at Villa Park in April this year.
