Arsenal lay wreaths at the Hillsborough Memorial

Arsenal paid their respects by laying wreaths at Anfield’s Hillsborough Memorial ahead of Sunday’s fixture.

The Gunners visit L4 in the Premier League for a game that will see Liverpool FC mark the forthcoming 34th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy.

On the eve of the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and club captain Martin Odegaard visited the memorial and laid a wreath each in memory of the 97 children, women and men who lost their lives as a result of the disaster on April 15, 1989.

A minute of silence will be observed ahead of kick-off on Sunday alongside a mosaic to be displayed on the Kop, featuring the Eternal Flames with the number 97.

The team will wear black armbands as a mark of respect and there will be a commemorative edition of the matchday programme, with tributes also set to be displayed on LED boards surrounding the pitch.
