VideoAnfield Road Stand expansion six months on

Back in September, Jürgen Klopp put the first spade into the ground and work officially started.
Good progress has been made, with the initial work on the site well under way with laying the foundations, erecting steelwork and building the concrete core. The foundations were laid first, in preparation for the concrete cores, providing the building’s stability and strength.
Steelwork in the shape of Y columns was installed to support the structure and create space underneath to allow the existing stand to be accessed on matchdays.
The lift shafts, which are currently in different stages of the build, will reach 40 feet above the ground to serve all floors and the roof level.
There are now three large cranes weighing more than 550 tonnes in operation working across the construction site.
Alongside the build, 15 local schoolchildren were chosen as young construction ambassadors for the project. The scheme is run by Buckingham, our principal contractor, alongside the club’s Red Neighbours team to introduce young people to careers in the construction industry.
