ReactionAmber Whiteley on Brighton win: 'We are made up with the result'
Amber Whiteley was 'made up' with Liverpool FC Women's victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, believing her side were fully deserving of three points.
The Reds leapfrogged their hosts into fifth position in the Barclays Women's Super League table on Saturday thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win on the south coast at Amex Stadium.
Olivia Smith and Leanne Kiernan were on target in the first half for Liverpool, while Michelle Agyemang netted for Brighton after the half-time break.
Ceri Holland also recorded two assists on her return to action for her interim head coach in what was seen as an important result for the Reds.
"We're made up with the result," Whiteley reflected post-match.
"I thought we deserved it. We had a really good first half and our energy was brilliant. We could've been out of sight at half-time.
"It was a little bit less controlled in the second half, but we did well to see the game out in the end."

On bouncing back after a difficult defeat by Chelsea last week...
The result was huge for us today. We wanted to go above them in the table and we needed to beat them to do that. There were a lot of positives from the game last week against Chelsea and I said that it had to be the standard for every game with the performance last week. In the first half today I thought we were brilliant.
On moving into fifth position ahead of Brighton...
We have to take it week by week but that is exactly where we want to be. We know that there are good teams below us and they'll look to chase us. It's up to us to keep doing the same things and prepare properly like we always do and keep our foot on the gas.
On Smith's injury that forced her to be substituted...
It's too early [to say] at the moment. We'll see how she is after a proper assessment and go from there.
On how proud she is at leading Liverpool after recent results...
I think all the credit has to go to the team. I try to give them absolutely everything that they need in terms of the best preparation - but then it's over to them as soon as they cross the white line. I think every time they've stepped out there for me they've always put everything out there.
It's a huge credit to them. The staff team have been brilliant too. I've been at Liverpool for five years now and I love the club. I just want to keep making the team better and keep pushing them forwards. That's the aim now until the end of the season.
