Liverpool’s No.1 won the prize for his impressive stop from a Miguel Almiron shot in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park last month.
Alisson crucially intervened with quick reactions to repel the forward’s volley – and scoop away the rebound – during the opening half, preventing the home side from taking a 2-0 lead.
Liverpool later overturned the deficit with 10 men, securing three points thanks to Darwin Nunez’s late double from the bench.
Alisson overcame Alphonse Areola (West Ham United), Mark Flekken (Brentford), Jose Sa (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Jordan Pickford (Everton) and Guglielmo Vicario (Tottenham Hotspur) to win the vote for Save of the Month.
“Thanks – winning an award is always good, feels good,” said the Brazilian when he collected the prize at the AXA Training Centre.
“I think this one you will not give so much credit to the team, I think this is something you do yourself! [Like] a striker with Goal of the Month.
“It was even more special because I think the save helped us to keep three points, to keep the team alive to get the three points.”
Describing the save from his perspective, Alisson continued: “[It was] a lot about reactions. I think good positioning, trying to read the situation as well. But I think it was mainly the reactions.
“The power of the shot was really strong from Almiron, I couldn’t see the ball properly as well [with] so many players in front of me. I’m happy that I could react at the right time, put the hand and have a try and make the save.”
Alisson’s catalogue of excellent Premier League saves since he joined the Reds in 2018 is enviable, with the stop on Tyneside just one of the latest.
Asked if it ranks among his favourites, he replied: “Definitely it will be, I think it will be. There’s a few.
“One that comes in my mind was the one against Norwich as well; I don’t remember the season. It was a good one-v-one in the end of the match, a really good one as well. I think I put those two at the top.”
