NewsAlisson Becker: It's an exciting start but now we have to focus again
Alisson Becker revealed the positivity generated by Liverpool’s beginning to the season – but underlined the need to refocus ahead of a busy period.
The goalkeeper was back at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday following the international break as the Reds prepare to visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Jürgen Klopp’s team have delivered an unbeaten start to 2023-24, with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa last time out taking them to 10 points from four games so far.
Alisson’s first clean sheet of the campaign that day was preceded by a vital contribution to the 2-1 victory at Newcastle United, where he produced an outstanding reaction stop to deny Miguel Almiron that has been voted the Premier League’s Save of the Month for August.
As he received the accolade in Kirkby, the Brazilian outlined the mood within the Liverpool squad as they aim to carry their momentum into a hectic upcoming schedule.
“Really looking forward to that: many games to play, different competitions as well starting,” said Alisson of a forthcoming run that sees Europa League and Carabao Cup ties added to top-flight duties.
“We are all excited about the start of the season, the way we have started, the way the team is improving game by game, going through difficult moments as well.
“Winning games in difficult circumstances, I think, is something that gives you confidence.
“And after a long period in the international break sometimes you can lose it if you don’t keep this feeling in you. So now it’s time for us to put it back on the next challenge that we have in front of us. This is the main challenge.
“I think we have to think game by game, step by step, just focus on ourselves to make our best and to win games.”
