FeatureAlexander Isak: The stats and numbers behind an elite Premier League forward
Alexander Isak arrives at Liverpool with an established reputation as an elite Premier League attacker.
It was confirmed on deadline day that Isak has joined the Reds on a long-term contract after a deal was agreed for his transfer with Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old forward spent three seasons at St. James’ Park and here, we take a look at some of the key numbers behind his outstanding Premier League record…
Goals to games ratio
Sweden striker Isak boasts an impressive record of 54 goals in 86 Premier League appearances, which equates to a ratio of 0.63 goals per game.
Goals and assists v xG and xA
Isak has outperformed his xG (expected goals) and xA (expected assists) figures in the Premier League.
His actual total of 54 goals has been accrued from an xG of 40.72, an outperformance that is illustrative of his elite finishing skills. Meanwhile, his nine assists have come from an xA of 6.37.
Season on season
2022-23: 1,524 minutes played – 22 appearances, 10 goals, one assist.
2023-24: 2,266 minutes played – 30 appearances, 21 goals, two assists.
2024-25: 2,769 minutes played – 34 appearances, 23 goals, six assists.
A closer look at 2024-25
Isak joins the reigning champions on the back of his most productive Premier League season so far.
Last term, his total of 23 goals (from an xG of 20.42) was bettered only by new teammate Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot while, with six, he also comfortably topped his previous best in terms of assists provided.
Isak registered a total of 46 shots on target, up from 36 in 2023-24, and recorded 211 touches in the opposition box (a total that was, again, fewer than only one player: Salah).
He successfully converted all four of his penalties last season and has netted 11 out of 12 in the division overall.
Award wins
Isak won both the Premier League Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for December 2024.
He scored eight times and provided two assists in six appearances while, ironically, his award-worthy goal was netted against Liverpool: a ferocious hit from just outside the penalty area that opened the scoring in a pulsating 3-3 draw at St. James’.
“What a finish that was… that shot from Isak, I don’t even know if Caoimh [Kelleher] saw that goal, as hard as it was,” said an admiring Arne Slot post-match.
Indeed, it was officially the most ferocious strike in last season’s Premier League, as it won the Most Powerful Goal accolade for 2024-25. Isak’s shot was measured to have an average speed of 108.94 km/h between the ball leaving his boot and crossing the goalline.
Wider recognition
Isak’s form throughout 2024-25 saw him shortlisted for both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season awards.
He was voted by his fellow professionals as being one of the six best performers in English football last season, along with Salah and Alexis Mac Allister, plus Bruno Fernandes, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice.
Isak also earned a nomination for the Premier League Player of the Season for the second successive campaign.
However, unsurprisingly given his incredible contribution to Liverpool’s title win, Salah won both awards.
The Swede featured in the 2024-25 PFA Premier League Team of the Year, meaning the Reds now boast six members of that XI announced last month.

Anfield record
Isak made two Premier League appearances at Anfield during his time with the Magpies, and he was on target both times.
The first came in August 2022 as he opened the scoring on a night when the hosts dramatically won 2-1 with a goal in the 98th minute.
Then, the forward netted when Newcastle visited L4 on New Year’s Day 2024, though again was on the losing side as Liverpool prevailed 4-2.
“It’s a very difficult place to come to and to win, which I’ve felt,” he said in his official signing interview on Monday. “The atmosphere is something extraordinary. I’m excited to be a part of that.”
