Alex, it’s done – you’re a Liverpool player. Can you describe how you’re feeling right now?

I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.

How does it feel that it’s now done, you’re a Liverpool player, when you look down and see the Liver bird on your jersey, how does that make you feel?

It’s mixed emotions – some relief but a lot of pride, happiness. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.

Why was it Liverpool for you? Why were Liverpool the club you wanted to join?

I think it’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is. The history of the club. Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies. That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.

Was that one of the motivating factors for you, that you feel by coming to Liverpool you can improve as a player too?

Yeah, for sure. I feel like this is the next step for me in my career. I’m super-happy that I’ve been given this chance and I’m very motivated to do something well with it.

For you now, is it about looking forward and getting back to getting on with your football?

Yeah. It has been a long summer but I’m just looking forward, not looking at the past. It’s done now and I know I can get back to doing what I love the most. Really looking forward to it.

You’ve played at Anfield twice, you’ve scored at Anfield twice. How was it playing there as an opponent?

Very difficult. I’ve had a little bit of success there but not as a team, I think we lost both games. It’s a very difficult place to come to and to win, which I’ve felt. The atmosphere is something extraordinary. I’m excited to be a part of that.

You have had some success against Liverpool as a player. What was it like facing Liverpool as an opponent, coming up against the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and the others? What kind of challenge was that?

Oh, it’s very challenging, of course. We’re talking about some of the best defenders in the world. So, it’s a big challenge. But personally, I love those types of challenges, I love to come up against the best and test myself. I always loved playing against Liverpool and I’m hoping it’s going to be better playing for Liverpool.

To play at Anfield now in the red as a Liverpool player, how exciting is that prospect?

It’s so exciting. I think it’s something difficult to put into words, I think you have to experience it and then explain. I think we all know what Liverpool is about, the fans and what they’re about as well. So, yeah, looking forward to getting to experience that.

You said earlier you felt by coming here you could improve as a player but what qualities do you want to add to this team?

Everything. I think I have a lot to give, I think I have a lot to improve. I’m a striker but I always want to give as much as possible to the team, mainly goals but much more than that as well. So yeah, everything.

How much are you looking forward to joining an attack that includes the likes of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz? You’ll get some chances in that team…

Yeah, I’m looking forward to that. You’re mentioning some world-class players there – they’ve done well when I’ve played on the other side and it’s going to be nice to be on the same team. I just hope I can bring my qualities and add to the team and I just want to have a great season.

You will go away with Sweden during the international break, which may give you a chance to get some minutes. Do you hope to be available and ready for Liverpool’s first game back, at Burnley?

Yeah, of course, I think that’s the ambition. However, I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and I’ve had restricted training, so I think that’s one to judge and to analyse where I am at and how much I am ready to give. But I certainly want to play as soon as possible.

The contract is signed and you are now a Liverpool player. What would you like to achieve over the course of that contract?

I want to win everything.

As simple as that? That’s the ambition?

Yeah.

You’ve also taken the No.9 jersey here at Liverpool – what does that mean to you?

It means a lot, it’s an iconic number. Obviously it comes with a responsibility as well but I’m delighted to have this chance and to get this number and I’m just motivated to start working and hopefully giving back as well.

How did it feel to see your name and number on the back of the jersey for the first time?

It was beautiful, it’s beautiful. All my family say it was beautiful as well so we’re happy.

Finally, they have been waiting for this moment. What would you say to the Liverpool fans reading or watching this interview?

Just that I’m so happy that I’m finally here. I can’t wait to get back out there and hopefully we can share some amazing moments together.
