NewsAlexander Isak named Swedish Men's Player of the Year

The Liverpool forward was bestowed with the honour in recognition of his performances at both club and international level this year.

Known as the Guldbollen, the accolade is awarded by the Swedish FA and newspaper Aftonbladet and after receiving it, Isak said: “Receiving the Guldbollen means a lot to me. It is the finest award in Swedish football at an individual level.

“It’s a great honour, I’m very proud. It’s very nice to be here and a nice prize. I would sum up my football year 2025 as very eventful. A lot of successes, some setbacks too. But very eventful, a year to remember.”

Isak joined the Reds last summer after a 2024-25 season during which he scored 27 goals in all competitions for former club Newcastle United.

Sweden, meanwhile, are in the European play-offs for a place at the 2026 World Cup finals. They face Ukraine in the semi-finals in March.

Isak added: “It is an incredible challenge where the prize is very big if we manage to advance and we will do everything in our power to make it a memorable summer.”
