Players and staff at the Liverpool FC Academy have been involved in a number of activities this week to enhance learning and understanding of the Hillsborough disaster.

Around 50 players from the U9 to U12 groups visited Anfield this week, where they were involved in an education programme provided by LFC Foundation.

They also met with Margaret Aspinall, former chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group before it disbanded last year, who spoke with them about what happened on April 15, 1989 and in the years that followed.

The players each laid a flower at the Hillsborough Memorial, where they listened to LFC chaplain Bill Bygroves, and one from each age group read out a message on behalf of their group.

Aspinall, who lost her son James in the disaster, also travelled to Kirkby to speak to the U18 and U23 squads at the AXA Training Centre, a visit she has made regularly in previous years.
