Community12th 'Run for the 97' event held in Stanley Park sunshine
Held annually since 2015, the event honours the 97 supporters who tragically lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough disaster on April 15, 1989.
This year, there were more than 1,600 participants involved, including visitors from Ireland, Scandinavia and Switzerland.
A 5k run was followed by a one-mile fun run in and around Stanley Park on Saturday, amid bright sunshine.
More than 100 virtual runners also took part on the same day globally, across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
Runners were invited to donate items to Fans Supporting Foodbanks alongside using their participation for charity fundraising.
Beneficiaries include Jamie Carragher’s 23 Foundation, official club charity LFC Foundation, and Stanley Park junior parkrun.
Among those backing the event were former Reds players Carragher, Chris Kirkland and Sammy Lee, plus LFC Foundation CEO Matt Parish.

“Each year it becomes more poignant,” said Alan Rothwell, founder of BTR Liverpool, which organises ‘Run for the 97’.
“Over the years we have gotten to know a number of Hillsborough family members, we recognise familiar faces who return year after year, and it’s important we keep educating the next generation through sport.
“‘Run for the 97’ embodies everything that Liverpool stands for – camaraderie, compassion, pride and strength. And once again we witnessed that in abundance.”
