One of the club's earliest players, William Michael was at Liverpool for just one season (1896-97).

<p>That was only Liverpool's second year of First Division football after their promotion as Division Two champions in 1896.</p><p>Michael played in the forward line but although he was selected for 19 of the 30 league matches, the longest run of consecutive appearances he made was nine.</p><p>He scored four times and the club comfortably held on to their First Division status at the second time of asking by finishing in a respectable fifth place.</p>
