Trevor Storton was signed by Liverpool from Tranmere Rovers at the start of the 1972-73 season.

<p>Bill Shankly was still in the process of rebuilding his 'new' team but it was quickly evident that the centre-back was not one of the players he expected to be a big part of that, even though this was the season when the club finally ended a seven-year wait for a major trophy.</p><p>He was given his league debut at Leeds United at the end of September 1972 but only made another three league appearances that term and just one in the following campaign.</p><p>Storton was on the bench for both legs of the 1973 UEFA Cup final in which the Reds beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-2 on aggregate.</p><p>He returned to the lower divisions with Chester City in July 1974, for whom he made almost 500 appearances in all competitions.</p>
